Selection Process

The very foremost criteria is whether the prospective student qualifies for admission into Ashesi based on the overall profile. During this stage, the selection team does not consider the need of the applicant.

Next, applicants who qualify to be admitted to Ashesi and have applied for the scholarship are then considered on the basis of financial need. The Scholarship Committee, which is made up of the whole Admissions Team will evaluate all the applicant information that has been gathered. If the information provided needs more clarification or more details, further questions may be asked at the admissions interview.

Eventually, prospective applicants are grouped based on their proven financial need into one of four categories: Extreme Need, High Need, Medium Need and Low Need. For each category, there is a fixed amount of cost that can be waived or funding to be provided. Students in each category are then ranked based on probability of them being admitted into the school’s curriculum.

Funding is then allocated to the students based on this ranking until the stipulated amount for the scholarship runs out.

Waitlist

The students in each category that do not receive funds are put in a waitlist and informed of their status. If by any chance, an accepted student decides to decline the scholarship, then the offer is passed on to the next in line on the waitlist.

Students who receive scholarships at Ashesi typically demonstrate that they would be :

  • Able to complete academic work at Ashesi University
  • Otherwise unable to afford to attend Ashesi University.
  • Active contributors to campus life and culture
  • Committed to giving back to their communities and showing strong leadership potential.

What the scholarship covers

Scholarships cover a wide range of things. Ashesi University’s scholarships can cover part of tuition or can cover the entire cost of tuition at the University. Some categories of scholarship cover housing, meals on campus, study materials and stipends for basic living expenses. Successful applicants will be fully informed of the terms and conditions of the scholarship in their admission package.

It is noteworthy that the decision of the school to offer admissions is independent of the scholarship. Hence, students may be informed that they qualify for admission but their scholarship request has been denied because they do not qualify for scholarship support.

There is a very strong competition for both admissions and the scholarship and therefore, prospective students are being advised to be as honest as they possibly can be in their applications. If it is found out that an applicant was dishonest in his or her application, the school reserves the right to terminate the admission of the student or disqualify a prospective student.
