The Regional Maritime University has issued waivers on some of the school fees. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected almost everything in it’s wake and a major disruption has been seen the education sector as the President of Ghana has issued an executive order banning public gatherings including schools.
The announcement of the waivers comes at a time when all schools are trying hard to continue teaching and learning online as normal classroom interactions are not possible. Since many students pay full or part of their fees before registering for a semester the waivers are to give the students their “change” as they are not able to complete the semester on campus.
So on 22nd April 2020, the Academic Council together with Management of the school agreed that:
- $50.00 (Fifty U.S. dollars) which is the internet fee for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year has been waived for all final year students, to help them complete their dissertations on time.
- Five percent (5%) of the total school fees for the 2019/2020 academic year has been waived for all level 100 -300 students. This excludes accommodation and feeding.
- Fifty percent (50%) of the fees for accommodation and feeding for affected students has been waived and will be credited to them during the 1st semester of the 2020/2021 semester. Students are to note that those who fail to register for the 2020/2021 academic year will forfeit their waiver.
Besides, it is important to note that, to be eligible to partake in the end of semester exams, all fees should have been paid in full by 15th May, 2020. Failure to do so will result in the student being barred from writing the exam.
Moreover, the composition of the End of semester assessment will be 60% of continuous assessment and 40% End of Semester Take Home Examination. Students are to note that this is applicable to only the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year and are strongly advised to take advantage of it.
