Application Requirements for University of Ghana’s 2021 Sandwich Programme

The University of Ghana has released the requirements for application into its Sandwich Programme which would run virtually due to the changes in the 2020/2021 academic calendar. Admitted students will study over two long vacations to obtain the equivalence of one academic year.

Entry Requirements for all Programmes

A good first degree, preferably a Second Class Lower or better (or a Final Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 or better in a relevant field of study at the University of Ghana or any other recognized/accredited University. Applicants with a Third Class may be considered for admission based in their work experience and other qualifications.

Programme-Specific Entry Requirements

  • MSc. Actuarial Science – This programme is for people with a formal background in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics who wish to advance in the actuarial profession. This program will also benefit entry-level actuaries who wish to prepare for Actuarial professional examinations within the context of a structured academic programme.
  • Msc. in Geoinformation Science – Applicants are required to have a minimum of 3 years working experience in either the private or public sectors. Moreover, applicants are expected to be computer literate and show adequate understanding of the fundamentals of RS/GIS principles. Applicants may have to pass a selection interview.
  • MA in Contemporary English Studies – This programme is intended for persons in any field of endeavor including business executives, teachers, public servants, public relations personnel, and journalists. One does NOT need a degree in English to apply.
  • MSc. in Financial Risk Management – Applicants need to have a background in any of the following fields of study: Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Actuarial Science, Accounting, Commerce, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, and Physics.
  • MSc. in Accounting and Finance – Applicants are expected to have a good first degree in the following areas: Accounting, Commerce, and Finance or Professional Accounting qualification. Applicants with non-accounting (e.g. Science, Humanities e.t.c.) backgrounds may be considered but they would be taken through access courses for a semester before progressing to the main programme.
  • MA Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) – Applicants must be English teachers at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels.
  • MA Public Affairs – Applicants are required to have a minimum of three years working experience in a private or public sector. They must pass an entrance examination and an interview.
